Akari house & Swiss bakery
Akari house-run by Swiss Japanese couple Gab and Kyoko Sutter-has a range of cozy apartment rentals located above the ever- popular Swiss bakery. The bakery itself serves a variety of European style breads, cakes and snacks, and makes European- style Pizza from 5pm everyday. The mini calzone are a crowd favourite for lunch with a good espresso coffee! Delivery and take out are also available. It is located very close to Nakao Onsen, and is a must try while you are visiting Nozawaonsen.

Heaven Karaoke is the only booth-style Karaoke bar in Nozawaonsen. It is located up the hill from the traffic lights on the corner of Oyu street. There are a variety of booth sizes. The largest of which can host groups up to 20persons. The stylish open bar and lounge area is also a great place to unwind after a day on the mountain. There is a large range of good whisky, and "kuro nama" on draft.

Billiken is an old favourite eatery in Nozawa onsen, located near Asagama onsen, in the old district of town. It serves home made Pizzas and huge pastas, and has a large side dish menu with many must-try options- including Sui-gyoza, and cob salad. The restaurant has several comfortable booth tables, and a small tatami seating area with a "hori-gotatsu"- leg space under the table.

The Olive rental shop is conveniently located upstairs in the same building. Country Papa is the restaurant attached to Nakajima Lodge and is located on-snow, in the middle of the restaurant strip in front of the Nagasaka centre house and gondola station. It is an American themed diner with booth seating and windows that look out over the snow. Country Papa has a good range of Chicken steak meals and some great desserts. Be sure to try the Chicken ginger steak. It is open for ski resort guests every lunch through out the peak winter season.

Founded in 1926, Soba Daimon is a locally run, home made soba house just off Oyu street, next to Fukiya. We serve a full range of soba and udon options including the ever popular - Ten Zaru soba - cold soba with a broth dipping sauce and a side of Prawn and vegetable tempura. There is also a great Buta don (Grilled, sliced pork on rice), and up to 4 kinds of Japanese craft beer on tap. It is a tiny shop, so lining up in peak season is not uncommon- but it is worth the wait!

Kongo is a great foodcourt-style venue with 6 different shops selling everything from thai curries, and crispy gyoza to traditional handmade jyuwari (wheat free) soba. The building- a former steel works- is huge and there are more than 100 seats, a kid's corner and a mezzanine area where youcan have Yakiniku (BBQ) at your table.(By appointment). The centre piece of the building is a huge replica of the Nozawa onsen fire festival "shaden" - a temple like structure that towers over the ground floor tables. It has something for the whole family and is a must see while in Nozawa.

Hakugin is a ski resort eatery located half way down Paradise course next to Panorama house Buna. It has fantastic views over the valley and of Mt Myoko. Inside there is a mixture of western tables and low tatami seating so you can kick back and relax with a bottle of wine or sparkling for a lazy lunch. Be sure to try the beef stew for a hearty main option or any of the snack items, especially the Namban chicken! Outside seating is available on sunny days.

Hamacho sushi is a traditional old style sushi house that serves Nigiri sushi and some roll sushi, made on demand. The sushi sets are very good value, but for a real local experience sit at the counter and order piece by piece while sampling the local sake served from the special hot sake dispenser.
