Onsen Guide

With a history stretching back over a thousand years, hot springs are at the heart of life in Nozawa onsen. Explore the village’s traditional bathhouses, spa facilities, footbaths and hot spring experiences.

Sotoyu – Public Bathhouses

The village has 13 traditional public bathhouses, known as Sotoyu, maintained by the local community.

Free to use; donations are appreciated.
Please bring your own towel and toiletries.
Wash before entering the bath.
Keep towels and hair out of the bath water.
Please be considerate of other bathers and help us care for these community-run baths.

Furusato-no-Yu – Day-use Onsen

Often described as Nozawa Onsen’s “14th sotoyu”, Furusato no Yu offers a more spacious bathing experience, with indoor and outdoor baths, showers and toiletries provided. Towels are available to purchase.

Sparena

A modern spa-style facility with outdoor swimwear baths and a children’s pool, plus gender-separated indoor baths, a sauna and an on-site gym. Swimwear is available to hire.

Onsen Tamago (Hot Spring Eggs)

Try making your own onsen tamago: eggs gently cooked using naturally hot spring water.
Bring your own eggs and net bag, and follow the cooking times shown on the sign at each spot.

Ashi-Yu (Footbath)

From spring to autumn, relax at the Yurari footbath next to Ogama. Soak your feet and enjoy the view (free to use).
Simply remove your shoes and socks, and bring a small towel to dry your feet afterwards.
